Establishing precision GPS coordinates for NPRA cultural sites listed on the Alaska Heritage Resource Survey (AHRS)

The location of most of the North Slope sites listed on the AHRS were determined from USGS topo sheets. Such locational information is significantly inaccurate in relation to today's GPS standard. Because of this it is extremely difficult to adequately protect these sites from potential adverse impact associated with oil & gas exploration activities.
