Nearshore Beaufort Sea Meteorological Monitoring and Data Synthesis Project OCS Study MMS 2007-011

US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) - This report summarizes meteorological data collected from five boem, formerly (Minerals Management Service) stations, along with existing data from supplemental stations along the Beaufort Sea coast. Data were collected for the BOEM stations from January 2001 through September 2006 spanning a 100 km stretch of the Beaufort Sea coast centered on Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. The BOEM meteorological...

Upper Kuparuk Watershed Sites Information - WERC

Water and Environmental Research Center - UAF (WERC) - The Upper Kuparuk watershed is located on the North Slope of Alaska, at the foothills of the Brooks Range (68 38'N, 149 24'W). The Upper Kuparuk River watershed (drainage area 142 km2) drains the highest and steepest terrain in the entire Kuparuk River watershed. Precipitation is spatially quite variable here because of orographic effects and probably the closeness of the higher mountains...

Winter Mortality of TCH

North Slope Borough (NSB) - At least 5 North Slope villages hunt caribou (Rangifer tarandus) from the Teshekpuk Herd. Understanding the movements and distribution of this herd is important if we are to determine if oil and gas exploration and development will impact caribou and eventually how to mitigate potential impacts. The use of satellite transmitters provides a valuable tool for determining distribution and...

Climate monitoring at remote weather stations

US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) - Monitor several climate parameters, including air and soil temperature, wind speed and direction, precipitation, snow depth, etc. Arctic NWR currently has 4 USGS weather stations, 3 of which are on North Slope. Monitor permanent vegetation plots at 4 climate stations maintained by the USGS within the Refuge.

National Petroleum Reserve – Alaska Meteorological Monitoring Station Quality Assurance Project

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has establihed a meteorological monitoring station in a remote location of the southeastern National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska (NPR-A) where it has an interest in identifying areas of maximum air quality impacts for existing and future oil and gas development. The meteorological data collected are intended to support BLM management decisions for the area...

Coastal Plain Meteorological Data -WERC

Water and Environmental Research Center - UAF (WERC) - The northern-most monitoring sites on the Kuparuk Watershed Study are located on the Arctic Coastal Plain of Alaska (approx. 70 16'N, 148 53'W). This area is a vast expanse of flat topography dominated by wetlands, ponds, and lakes. Numerous permafrost features also exist like high and low centered polygons, pingos, strangmoor ridges, and hummocky ground (Kane et. al 2000). The vegetation of...

NPRA Meteorological Data Assessment and Gap Analysis: Atqasuk (AWOS)

Capture AECOM Environment (AECOM) - The National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska (NPRA) covers a vast area, and weather stations within the inland NPRA are few. It is also not known how climatologically representative current inland stations are with regard to the larger NPRA. While there are currently several weather stations along the northern coast of the NPRA, it is also known that coastal areas are strongly influenced by coastal...

Western Kuparuk Meteorological Data - WERC

Water and Environmental Research Center - UAF (WERC) - WERC has one monitoring site on the western margin of the Kuparuk Basin, approximately 50 km west of Sagwon Bluffs. The site is located on a ridge overlooking the West Fork of the Kuparuk River at an elevation of about 158 meters. The West-Kuparuk monitoring station is located at 69o 25' 34.3 N latitude and 150o 20' 25.3 W longitude, in the area of transition between rolling hills and the...
