Fall 2017 Subsistence Fishery Monitoring on the Colville River

Ongoing monitoring of the subsistence fishery is conducted each fall after freeze-up in the Nigliq Channel of the Colville River. Monitoring began in 1985. The monitoring program has traditionally focused on the harvest of Arctic Cisco (Qaaktaq) which is a staple in the diet of Nuiqsut residents. Monitoring protocols have been repeated over 31 years and in addition new reporting methods was implemented in 2016 to provide annual results.
