Beaufort Subsistence Activities Monitoring
This group of studies establishes long-term monitoring data to help assess effects of OCS oil and gas development activities on subsistence hunting in the Beaufort Seas. The integration of these monitoring projects identifies, verifies and improves the effectiveness of pre-lease mitigation and post-lease operations for future development activities on the OCS through identification of potential marine and terrestrial temporal and spatial use conflicts. These studies deliver systematic observational and interview data from local stakeholders relevant to offshore and near-shore subsistence hunting and identify cumulative direct and indirect (downstream) effects to improve mitigation strategies, including avoidance through deferral.
This Program is comprised of two projects that are also referenced in Catalog: Study of Sharing Networks to Assess the Vulnerabilities of Local Communities to O&G Development Impacts in Arctic Alaska Aggregate Effects Research & Environmental Mitigation Monitoring of Oil Operations in the Vicinity of Nuiqsut
