Alaska Petroleum Studies

Because Alaska is rich in scenic, biologic, mineral, and energy resources and because the federal government is a major land holder, issues arise over land use and the relative value of resources. The goal of the project is to provide credible and up-to-date assessments of Alaska’s energy resource potential in keeping with USGS responsibilities to periodically assess the Nation’s onshore and State offshore resource potential. Because Alaska is an area of active oil and gas exploration, geologic understanding and perceptions of its energy resource potential are constantly evolving. Credible oil and gas resource assessments require that current data and concepts be incorporated.
